Artistic Statement
I compose concert music for instrumentalists and singers that is a continuation of western tonal and post tonal traditions. My work often explores social justice issues and embeds elements of folk and popular music such as indigenous American chants, Balkan dance, jazz, and progressive rock.
I establish a unique harmonic grammar for each piece, giving rise to distinctive melodies not rooted in traditional major/minor patterns.
I strive to pull the listener into a soundscape of interlocking relationships that allows me to manipulate the listener’s expectations of melody, harmony, rhythm, energy, and form. My scores are exacting blueprints for performance.
